Getting Here

Due to the small size of the BVI’s main airport, the islands have been kept wondefully preserved, earning them the name “Nature’s Little Secrets”, this also means that there are no direct long haul flights but there are numerous ways to get here. If your starting point isn’t listed below, get in touch and our experienced staff and help you with your travel plans.

Getting to the BVI from the United States

There are several options open here. You can either fly to San Juan (SJU) Puerto Rico and hop a commuter flight directly into Tortola, or fly into St Thomas (STT) in the US Virgin Islands and take a water ferry to Tortola.

Fly into Tortola

Puerto Rico is a hub for American Airlines, Jet Blue flies directly into San Juan from Boston, Ft. Lauderdale and many other cities as well as Spirit Airlines. Once in Puerto Rico you can take one of three airlines to fly directly into Beef Island, Tortola at the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS):

Cape Air (code shares with Jet Blue, so you can check your bags all the way through)

Seaborne Airlines (code shares with American Airlines, so you can check your bags all the way through)

     Liat Airlines

There are also a few smaller, private companies offering flights from Puerto Rico/St. Thomas to Tortola:

     Air Sunshine

     VI Airlink

     Fly BVI

     Island Birds

Once you arrive at the Beef Island airport you will clear immigration and customs. Then you can grab a taxi to Nanny Cay – we will help you arrange this in advance. A cab ride from the airport is ~$40 and takes aprox. 45 minutes.

Ferry from St. Thomas

St Thomas (STT) in the USVI is served by American Airlines, Delta, United, Jet Blue , US Air and Spirit from many US cities. Once you land in St. Thomas you will take a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal in Charlotte Amalie. There are multiple companies that operate water taxis, and it’s a scenic and relaxing 45 minute trip across to Road Town, Tortola. Ferry schedules from St Thomas may vary by day and season, so its best to ask us as we help you with your travel plans.
The below chart is to be used for GENERAL planning purposes – please check the link to the ferry company you plan to use, or give us a call at Virgin Traders, within a few weeks of your arrival to ensure times have not changed

Getting to the BVI from Europe

There are several options from the UK, same as the US. You can either fly to San Juan (SJU) Puerto Rico and hop a commuter flight directly into Tortola.  Also, there are additional airlines flying into San Juan from the Europe, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
A couple other options for European passengers is to fly into the islands of either Antigua or St. Martin.  From there, you can fly with either Liat or BVI Airways directly into Beef Island, Tortola.
